The majority of leptospirosis cases in dogs are caused by P1-virulent species. These bacteria can be transmitted through contact with the urine of infected animals, contaminated water, or soil. Dogs can become infected by drinking contaminated water, eating contaminated food, or coming into contact with infected animals or their urine.
